About the artist

Tamara Comas (b. 1990) is a Chilean-Canadian fine artist who specializes in acrylic portraiture.

Born to Chilean immigrants in the vibrant city of Toronto, Canada, Tamara spent her childhood living between the two countries and drawing inspiration from the contrasting realities of both cultures. From this unique upbringing, she learned to quickly adapt to new environments, which influenced her ease of picking up new mediums and techniques.

As a self-taught artist, Tamara has had the privilege of honing her craft through dedication and determination, which is highlighted by her recent first prize win at the 2023 Live Art Competition in Brampton, Ontario.

One of her most cherished collaborations has been crafting the visual identity of local band Possessed Steel since 2013, including the artwork for their full-length debut album, "Aedris."

While painting is her primary passion, Tamara has delved into diverse artistic endeavours over the years, from macrame and playing musical instruments like the piano and guitar to pottery, jewellery making, pyrography, sculpture, film, and video editing. When she's not immersed in the world of art, you'll find her indulging in archery and exploring the great outdoors with her family.

Tamara's art infuses realism with fantastical elements like colourful brush strokes and whimsical motifs. Her art is meant to evoke a sense of playfulness and movement, while bringing elements of depth and maturity to her subjects' expressions.

She believes that every colourful stroke on the canvas is meant to bring life to each painting, and is excited to share her artistic journey with other aspiring artists.

Awards

In 2023 Tamara won first prize when she participated in Brampton’s Annual Live Art Competition, which consisted in a 3-hour paint-off among other contestants prompted by the theme “Downtown Brampton”. Tamara painted the side of the Peel Art Gallery Museum & Archives.
